Sara Hall Wins Third-Straight USATF 10 Mile Championships Seven Days After Berlin MarathonBy Adam Kopet Sara Hall and Futsum Zienasellassie were crowned USATF champions Sunday at the USATF 10 Mile Championships, hosted by the TC 10 Mile, in St. Paul, Minn. RESULTS | RACE VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS Hall won her third-straight USATF 10 Mile Championships, this time only seven days after she finished fifth at the Berlin Marathon where she ran 2:22:16. Her time Sunday on the 10-mile course from Minneapolis to St. Paul was 53:11. With such short recovery from the marathon, Hall waited until as late as possible to make her move. That final kick was what separated her from the second-place finisher, Makena Morley of Colorado. Morley, who is out of cross country eligibility, entered the race to get road racing experience before she returns to the Colorado track team this winter. She ran 53:17. Hometown favorite Katy Jermann moved up through the second half of the race to take third in 53:44. The men's race saw a large pack leading the race until late. However, it was Futsum Zienasellassie who came away with the narrow win, running 46:55. It was his first USATF national title. His previous best finish in a USATF Championship race was fifth at the USATF Half Marathon Championships in May. Finishing just behind Zienasellassie was Abbabiya Simbassa, who crossed the line in 46:57. Connor McMillan rounded out the podium, running 46:58 for third. |
